China will expand its ocean probe area

,Pa?&[9{m Director of the State Oceanic Administration Sun Zhihui said that China would conduct oceanic researches in some pioneering fields, such as the interrelations among ocean, land and atmosphere movement; the changes of ocean in relation to global changes; biosphere in deep ocean areas and organism living in the extreme environment in deep ocean areas; the evolution occurring in land rim areas and in mid-ocean ridges, and the conjugation of the north and south poles.

He said that over the next few years, China faces a critical time in making technological advancement in oceanic study. Therefore both the fundamental science study and application study should catch up with the trend. He urged scientists to further conduct their studies in the fundamental science, application science and strategic research in fields that are either closely related with human interest and human development, such as the study of ocean resources, environment, ocean climate, and ocean disasters; or in fields that are pioneering in world oceanic study; or in fields that can meet the practical needs of oceanic management.
