Female migrant workers must fulfill the duty as “migrant workers” and cope with the unfairness and social prejudice, which have haunted Chinese shifting population since long ago, in the first place. However, they still have to take responsibilities as “women”, too, which means that they have to be devoted to marriage, and make more sacrifices than their husbands for their children.

A recent survey conducted by All-China Women’s Federation also reveals the point. More than 90% of 995 responders in 10 big cities feel distressed, and 60.3% worry about their children (60% leave their children in their hometowns, and more than 12% can’t see their children even once in a year or two). Their stress and strain also come from unstable jobs, short wages, education of their children and the stability of their families.

Currently there are 20 million children living apart from their parents in the countryside, and their number is increasing fast. Only 14.6 million stay with their parents in the cities. The education and caring of both should never be overlooked, for they will play an important part in China’s future, too.
