But this summer, Espina will be one of 16 teachers leaving her home and family in the Philippines to teach in the Baldwin County Public Schools.

Though other school systems have talked about doing so, Baldwin County is the first public school system in Alabama to send recruiters halfway around the world and hire teachers from a foreign country, officials said.
